Chulliyar Dam – An Ideal Picnic Spot

Chulliyar Dam in Kollemcode in Palakkad district, North Kerala is one of the lesser-known dams in Palakkad with a lot of greenery around. A steep path from the entrance leads to the dam.

A quiet ambience, gentle breeze and a lot of greenery make it a decent picnic spot. There aren't any shops nearby so it is advisable to carry water and snacks during the visit to Chulliyar. Early morning and evening are considered the ideal times to visit the dam, to save yourselves from the sweltering heat. Chulliyar is one of the tributaries of the Gayathri puzha (river). The dam is built across the Chulliyar, and the entry is free to the dam which has more than one entry point.

There is a small tunnel here but entry is prohibited. A bridge across the link canal leads to an ideal viewpoint to see the shutter. The place is a good fishing spot. By evening, fishing groups converge in this place, and if you are interested you can also participate in fishing.
