A gem in the wilderness

Sometimes the lesser known trespasses the terrain of your imagination, casting indelible impressions. Wouldn’t it be more worth to look for such a haven where you can unwind yourself than to run after a place swarming with sightseers? This vale of fruits, vegetables and flowers has definitely much in store for you. Welcome to Kanthalloor, the apple valley of Kerala.

Nestled on the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu between Udumalpet and Munnar, Kanthalloor is an immaculate village of imposing splendor, soothing climate and nature. Here, Escape Farm, a rustic home built in heritage style amid the backwoods awaits you. This farm on a 10-acre land is owned by John Thomas, an ardent lover of nature. Among the more than forty species of trees in the premises include quality apples, strawberries, plums and kiwi fruits.

At Escape Farm, there are many leisure options. Trekking would be an unavoidable part of your stay at the farm. You can also plant saplings provided to you at the farm. The rich bio diverse region offers you ample opportunities for bird watching. You can visit the nearby hills covered by shola forests or the Chinnar wildlife sanctuary and get a never before experience in watching some of the rare indigenous high-altitude birds.

There are many tribal villages around Escape Farm: Kanthalloor, Marayoor, Kizhantoor, Karayoor, to name a few. Opt for a jeep drive or a walk to these villages and experience their culture, customs, religion and culinary ways. You can enjoy a ride through the meandering jungle paths enjoying the vast variety of indigenous flora and fauna as Escape Farm shares its boundary with the Anamudi Shola National Park.

Acres of land stretching across Kanthaloor village is famous for the cultivation of apples, apricots, plums, oranges, pomegranate, guava, gooseberry, peach and passion fruit. Many vegetables are also cultivated here with minimum use of chemical fertilizers and the yield is very impressive. Yes, this patch of green is really a veritable basket of fruits and vegetables. Set amid the backdrop of wilderness, the stay at Escape Farm at Kanthalloor unwinds and rejuvenates every lover of nature.
