Onam Celebrations

It is that time of the year again. When the whole of Kerala is bathed in festivities as the state readies itself to welcome the mythical King Mahabali. With Onam shy of just a few weeks, the state is reeling in festive splendour and is vibrant with a multitude of activities. Soon the capital city will be draped in a rich cultural fiesta with each nook and cranny brimming with games and a display of traditional art forms.

Onam is the 10-day-long celebration that transforms Kerala like no other, a time of extreme happiness. A variety of cultural shows are held in different venues which witness hordes of locals and several tourists turning up to have a gala time. The festive season provides the travellers a golden opportunity to watch the various art forms of the state in all its glory.

This time too, Kerala Tourism has come up with a slew of programmes to woo Keralites with an eclectic and impressive array of cultural activities to make Onam memorable.

Onam week celebrations will be held in 30 venues in the capital from September 12 to 18. The week long festivities will see renowned artists perform various traditional, classical, folk and ritual art forms. The percussion ensemble by chenda maestro Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar with a total of 51 artists will inaugurate the state-level celebrations at Nishagandhi Auditorium on September 12.

The city will come alive with a cultural extravaganza of music, dance, and other cultural activities. All the 14 districts will join in the festivities by organising several programmes. The celebrations will conclude on 18th September at Nishagandhi Auditorium.
