The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) and the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) have signed an agreement to work as marketing agents for each other. This was announced at a news conference by the KTDC chairperson, Ms Padmaja Venugopal.

The two corporations will book package tours for each other and arrange accommodation for tourists in each other?s hotels. They would also exchange chefs, cultural troupes and use other tourism promotion paraphernalia. More Net-based reservations which would help both parties would also be made.

The KSTDC chairperson Ms. Manorama Madhwaraj and the KSTDC managing director Mr. K.V. R. Tagore, as well as the KTDC MD, Dr. K. Elangovan addressed the press.

Karnataka already had such an arrangement with five other State tourism development corporations. Shortly, it would have a tie-up with half-a-dozen more States, Mr. Tagore pointed out. Unlike Kerala, Karnataka which has not yet made tourism a priority sector, focuses on domestic tourists. Mr. Tagore said his State was adopting some of the measures taken by Kerala to boost tourism.
