Leela Group enters Kerala's hotel industry

The Leela Group has taken over the Le Meridien resort at the Kovalam beach and re-launched it as The Leela Kovalam Beach. The resort was disinvested three years ago by India Tourism Development Corporation who had first opened it in 1969. Conveniently located just 15 kms from Thiruvananthapuram airport, the resort with its 194 guest rooms and suites is spread across numerous acres of the sprawling 1.5 km beachfront. The Resort sits perched on a cliff top, cradled between two wide sweeping beaches. It offers a stunning view of the famed Kovalam coastline and the coconut orchards beyond. Being India's first and Kerala's largest Beach Resort, it has undergone a complete renovation programme in the last two years costing approximately Rs.500 million and which includes the beach-view wing, designed originally by renowned Mumbai based architect Charles Correa. All 88 guest rooms, a new Lobby, the infinity ocean-edge Pool, the Caf? and Bar and Conference rooms have a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and the lush Kovalam coastline. An Ayurveda and wellness spa, Yoga rooms are other attractions of the resort.
