New Minister for Tourism
Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has taken charge as the Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala. The new ministry with Mr. V.S. Achuthanandan as
Chief Minister assumed office on 18.05.2006. Mr. Balakrishnan who also holds the portfolio of Home was the deputy leader of opposition in the
previous assembly. A widely acclaimed parliamentarian, Mr. Balakrishnan started political life as a student leader. He was first elected to the Kerala
Assembly in 1982 and this is his first stint as a minister. A graduate, in his lively political career, Mr. Balakrishnan has held several important positions
including the State Secretary of the Students Federation of India. Hailing from
Kodiyeri in Kannur district, he has also served as the office bearer of various trade unions.
