Parunthumpara - a trekker's delight

Parunthumpara, situated near Peermedu in Idukki district, is a place famed for its pristine natural beauty. A trekker's delight offering a bird's eye view of an endless stretch of green forests, Parunthumpara is a favourite of off-beat travellers. And if the sky is clear, the visitors can also get a view of the Sabarimala forests from here.

The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is planning to develop Parunthumpara as a hill station destination as it's a stopover for tourists coming from Kumarakom to Thekkady. Yet to be included in the tourism map of the district, there are a few slopes at Parunthumpara which the visitors should be careful of. The DTPC had submitted a project for constructing a protective wall and allotting a parking area for preventing the entry of vehicles to the grasslands.

Parunthumpara, literally meaning eagle's rock, is 6 km away from Peermedu-the famous plantation town in Kerala, on the National Highway 220. Parunthumpara can also be accessible through two main roads in the district; from Nedumbassery-Munnar road and the Kumarakom-Thekkady road.
