' Waking up the Ashtamudi'

Ashtamudi Lake, Kollam, one of the nerve centres of backwater tourism in Kerala is the proposed site for a 20 million rupees 'mega tourism project' of the Department of Tourism.

Enhancing backwater tourism, the proposed project - the 'Ashtamudi Backwater Tourism Complex' will have water walkway, boat terminal, temple of Yoga and Kalari - the martial art of Kerala, Bagala model vessels - a type of Arab vessel which were frequently in service between Persia and Kerala during the previous century, aqua taverns, rustic villas, kayal (lake) guest houses, angler's paradise, water safari park, archaic gallery on the erstwhile kingdom of Venad spread over south Kerala, lake hotels and a house boat centre.
