The Malaysian firm, Trans Resource
Corporation (TRC), would set up the proposed Marina in Kochi at a seven-acre
plot on the reclaimed land on Mulavukadu Island, owned by the Goshree Island
Development Authority (GIDA). The proposed site for the Marina is situated
adjacent to the Goshree bridges and is not included in the 53-acre land set
aside by GIDA for sale through the global bidding process. The agreement was
reached at the discussions held between a three-member delegation from the Trans
Resource Corporation and the Ernakulam District Collector, Mr. Mohammed Hanish
on the procedures involved in the execution of the project.
The Trans
Resource Corporation (TRC) and the Tourist Resorts Kerala Limited (TRKL) had
earlier conducted a survey on the reclaimed land of GIDA and had even
short-listed Bolgatty as one of the locations for setting up the marina. But
ultimately, the TRC zeroed in on the GIDA - owned land on Mulavukadu Island as
the ideal location for establishing the marina.
The nine-member
high-level delegation from the TRC had earlier held talks with the Chief
Minister, Mr. Oommen Chandy, and the Minister for Tourism, Mr. K. C. Venugopal
on the matter. The location of the marina was also discussed at the meet. The
Secretary for Tourism, Mr. T. Balakrishnan, Director for Tourism, Mr. T. O.
Sooraj, Managing Director of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), Mr.
M. N. Gunavardhanan, and the Managing Director of Tourist Resorts Kerala Limited
(TRKL), Mr. K.V. Mohankumar, participated in the discussions.
The Rs. 500
million project, which is a joint venture between TRC and Tourist Resorts Kerala
Limited, envisages a berthing facility for 60 yachts and other recreational
facilities based on international standards. The project is expected to be
completed within a year.
