Kerala Tourism introduces scheme for the classification of restaurants

Published in Newsletter Issue No. 130 - Jun 1 2004

Kerala Tourism has devised a new scheme for the classification of restaurants in the State. The Government of India has directed the State Government to introduce certain guidelines to regulate the working of restaurants in the state in order to ensure that tourists and customers are provided high quality and hygienic services of International standard.

The Department of Tourism, Government of India had discontinued the scheme for approval of restaurants from 1st July last year. The Government of India's approval was valid only for a period of 3 years. Since the approved hotels are enjoying certain incentives/benefits from State Government as part of promotion of tourism industry in the State such as bar license, investment subsidy, electricity tariff concession etc., it is necessary for them to have a continued valid approval. As a result, the Kerala Tourism has formulated the new scheme for the classification of restaurants.
