Craft Tourism village to be set up at Iringal

A Craft Tourism Village would be set up at Iringal, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism said. Announcing this after inaugurating the beautification project of the Kappad beach, the minister said that the village would be developed on the lines of the Handloom Village project launched recently at Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram district. The project worth Rs. 40 million will be implemented with the assistance of the Union Government. The village would provide foreign tourists an opportunity to learn the ethnic handicraft sector of the State, the minister said.

Kappad would be made a prominent destination in the state. Lack of infrastructure facilities is hampering the growth of Kappad. The Rs. 15 million project include modification and protection works of the beach. Facilities like benches, toilets, umbrellas, walkways would be set up. Steps would be taken to protect the shores employing modern technologies. The Government is committed to ensure that the benefits of tourism reach the local community, the minister said.
