Minister announces mega project for Thusharagiri
Development projects worth Rs. 8 crore would be implemented in the second phase of development of Thusharagiri waterfalls in Kozhikode, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism said. The minister was speaking after inaugurating the Tourism Corridor project at Thusharagiri. The minister also inaugurated the Tourism Amenity Centre and the renovated Chembukadavu-Thusharagiri road.
Projects worth Rs. 8.5 million were included in the first phase of the project. A detailed project report has been submitted to the Union Government for the second phase. The panchayats of Kodancherry, Puthuppady, Thiruvambadi and Koodaranji would benefit from the Thusharagiri project. Eco-tourism projects have special significance in the districts of Kozhikode and Wayanad. This would be exploited and projects would be envisaged ensuring welfare of the local population. Kozhikode has registered a 24 pc increase in tourist arrivals while for Wayanad it is 200 pc. The minister called for increased participation of local bodies in tourism development. Government aims at tourism development preserving the natural environment. Tribal population would be given opportunity for marketing ethnic products at tourist centres.
