Kerala Tourism launches the First Water STREET in Maravanthuruthu, Kottayam
Kerala Tourism’s first STREET project was inaugurated in Maravanthuruthu in the Kottayam district. Maravanthuruthu Water STREET is among the 10 STREET projects (Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic Tourism hubs) to be developed by Kerala Tourism through Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission Kerala.
Inaugurating the Water STREET project, Tourism Minister Mr P. A. Mohamed Riyas said the STREET project is aimed at giving a new look and feel to Kerala Tourism through experiential tourism. The minister said Maravanthuruthu will be developed as a model of sustainable and experiential tourism destination with a dedicated water STREET festival conducted later this year.
Mr Rupesh Kumar, the State Coordinator of the RT Mission Kerala, said the Maravanthuruthu STEET project has seen wholesome participation of the residents, and the whole village joined the Water STREET celebration by decking up their streets in the traditional way.
Kerala Tourism has identified Kadalundi (Kozhikode); Maravanthuruthu and Manachira (Kottayam); Thrithala and Pattithara (Palakkad); Valiyaparamba (Kasaragod); Kanthallur (Idukki), Chekadi (Wayanad) and Ancharakandi and Pinarayi (Kannur) for STREET initiatives.
