Keralites Swoon Over Manchester City’s Onam Wishes

Onam greetings in Malayalam by the top-flight English club Manchester City took the social media by storm. Keralites were quick to lap up the greetings in Malayalam and the Instagram picture went viral.

The image shows the star striker Erling Haaland in blue jersey biting into a fried pappadam, against the backdrop of two houseboats and a green spread of land dotted with coconut trees. Keralites across the globe were bowled over by the greetings.

Kerala Tourism reposted the image on Facebook and commented. “The team with 32 major honours in the English Premier League wishes all Malayalis a happy Onam. Manchester City has quite a dedicated Malayali following all over the world.” The post also became an instant hit.

The Kerala Tourism Minister Shri P. A. Mohamed Riyas said that football has for long been part of the state’s sporting culture, which has now earned yet another note of warmth from abroad. “Manchester City is among the world’s top football clubs; they have dedicated followers in Kerala as well. The Instagram picture is effectively a token of the club’s gratitude to us,” he said.

Recently, English football club Chelsea FC had done a virtual tour of Alappuzha and marvelled at the scenic beauty of the district.
