Kerala Tourism Surpasses Global Growth, Introduces Digital Festival Calendar

Published in Newsletter Issue No. 381 - May 2025

Kerala Tourism has significantly outperformed global tourism recovery trends, as highlighted by Shri P. A. Mohamed Riyas, Minister, Kerala Tourism. The Minister emphasized Kerala's strategy of positioning itself on the international stage rather than solely competing domestically, showcasing its global competitiveness.

In line with this vision, the Department of Tourism unveiled a comprehensive digital calendar (https://www.keralatourism.org/ebrochures/digital-event-calendar/76/) featuring 101 important cultural events, festivals, and fairs taking place from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. The calendar serves as an essential guide for tourists, offering detailed insights into Kerala’s diverse cultural heritage. It incorporates 75 multimedia elements, including vibrant videos, compelling images, and concise descriptions, enabling tourists to virtually experience Kerala's festive spirit before arriving.

The minister noted Kerala’s consistent growth trajectory since the COVID-19 pandemic, attributing the success to innovative tourism initiatives and carefully tailored visitor experiences. Kerala’s tourism sector continues to attract increasing numbers of domestic and international tourists by effectively anticipating and responding to changing tourist preferences.

The digital calendar initiative was introduced to provide advance knowledge of Kerala's festivities, helping visitors to better plan their trips. Tourism Secretary Shri Biju K highlighted the calendar’s capability to swiftly inform global tourists about festival locations and schedules, simplifying their travel arrangements.

In her welcoming address, Smt. Sikha Surendran, Director, Kerala Tourism, emphasized how the calendar's detailed and visually appealing content enhances visitor understanding and appreciation of Kerala’s cultural offerings. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Additional Director (General) of Tourism Vishnu Raj P.

Featured in the calendar are major celebrations such as Onam, Vishu, Easter, and Bali Perunnal. It also highlights the famed boat races, traditional Kerala art forms like Theyyam, Thira and Padayani, alongside significant religious festivals across temples, churches, and mosques. Additionally, the calendar includes notable events organized by the government, reinforcing Kerala’s inclusive and diverse cultural landscape.
