Shri P. A. Mohamed Riyas, Minister, Kerala Tourism, underscored the significance of developing and upgrading state guest houses as key contributors to tourism growth during the inauguration of the new government guest house at Ponmudi hill station.
Minister Riyas highlighted the government's commitment to providing high-quality accommodation facilities, essential to the overall tourism experience. He stated that the renovation and development of government guest houses and rest houses at prominent tourist locations, such as Guruvayoor, Kanyakumari, Wayanad, Aluva, Munnar and Calicut, have been prioritized due to their heavy visitor traffic.
The new guest house at Ponmudi is part of these comprehensive tourism infrastructure enhancements, responding to a significant increase in tourists visiting Kerala, with record numbers reported in 2024. This upward trend in tourism is expected to continue, further necessitating advanced accommodation options in key locations.
Ponmudi, renowned for its scenic beauty, draws considerable attention from both domestic and international tourists. The newly inaugurated four-storey guest house is 2,590 sq meters in area, featuring 22 air-conditioned rooms, including six suites. Additional amenities include an air-conditioned conference hall, two dining halls, a modern kitchen, ample parking, and dedicated accommodations for drivers of tourist vehicles.
Presiding over the event, Vamanapuram MLA Shri DK Murali said that the new guest house would significantly enhance Ponmudi’s appeal, meeting critical accommodation needs. Smt. Sikha Surendran, Director, Kerala Tourism, further emphasized that the facility's comprehensive amenities would substantially enrich visitor experiences at Ponmudi.
