Thekkady in Idukki

Thekkady's very essence lies in the picturesque visuals and natural charm that have mesmerised people for centuries. The name itself is derived from the word thekku which means teak. Embalmed by the gorgeous Periyar Valley, its undulating mountains of more than 1700 meters make for a stunning and overwhelming green visual. The natural trails here are beloved to trekkers, with chirping birds, rare jungle animals and gushing mountain streams accompanying you the entire way. Its landscape also boasts of elevated flat terrains, lush valleys, picturesque lakes and greenery that merge seamlessly into the horizon. It is also home to tribal hamlets that hold on to age-old practices. Their presence adds to the charm of the entire place.

The weather tends to be generally equable, dropping to 13 degree Celsius during December/January and rising to 30 degree Celsius during April/May.
