Chakka Chips

Chakka – Much More than a Fruit

Malayalis can never get enough of the aroma and taste of that super juicy golden yellow fruit called Chakka!

What if we tell you Chakka aka Jackfruit is more than just a fruit?

Currently, Jackfruit is a trending topic in the social media, and among fitness freaks. This is due to nothing but is high nutritional value, and the innumerable food items that can be made with it. Indubitably the list is too long to discuss!

It’s jackfruit season now in Kerala and the air is rich with the smell of ripe jackfruit everywhere. And this is the right time to try your hand at some chakka delicacies. A variety of dishes from spicy curries to sugary snacks can be made from chakka.

Your options are pretty endless as every single part of jackfruit can be made into a delicious savoury like Chakka Erissery, chakkakuru (seed) thoran, ripe chakkayappam, chakkapoonchu mezhukkuvaratti (a sautéed dish made using the kernel of the jackfruit), idichakka (tender jackfruit) avial, etc. The most famous is indeed the crispy salty chakka chips!

This precious fruit is an integral part of Kerala household and the importance of the jackfruit has gained more traction with its being granted the status of the State Fruit. With its nutritional punch of protein, dietary fibre, vitamins A and C, and potassium we can even call it a miracle fruit.

Think of a bowl full of your favourite fruits tossed together in a tangy mix of flavours!

What more do you need to make your quarantine days splendid?
