Development of the suburbs
It was the outskirts of the city that grew exponentially with the emergence of the service sector and industries in Ernakulam. The Eloor - Edayar- Ambalamugal area has been transformed into one of the major industrial areas in the district. Kalamassery, Kakkanad, Edapally and Tripunithura are the other major industrial suburbs that underwent rapid development. The coastal region also benefited from the quick pace of urbanization.
