With the ‘globalization at the sea’, the demands and expectations of tourists have increased manifold. To cater to this demand, Kochi has taken created various facilities. One such important facility is the international marina.
The marina, the first of its kind in the country, has been set up on the eastern coast of the premises of the Bolgatty Palace by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. Modelled on the popular St. Catherine Marina of London and the Dubai Marina, it has the infrastructure to berth 34 yachts at a time.
The beams which carry the floating docks of the marina are constructed in two acres of backwaters near the Bolgatty Island. A wooden board walk has been created in front of the adjacent Marina House so that the visitors can move around and look at the docked yachts.
The adjacent three-storeyed Marina House has luxurious deluxe rooms, multi-cuisine restaurants, health clubs and recreation facilities that include a golf course that dates back to 1920. In order to make their guests feel at home, the KTDC has taken many more steps including the provision of water and electricity to the yachts and a cafeteria and locker facilities at the Marina House.
