The jungle patrol programme for tourists provides them with the opportunity of taking part in the regular night patrolling in the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The duration of the programme is three hours - between 7 pm. and 4 am. Each team consists of four tourists who are expected to have sound mental and physical fitness. Tourists, accompanied by armed forest guards and protection watchers, trek across the forest at night.
