The Akkulam Glass Bridge is an innovative attraction located at Akkulam Tourist Village in Thiruvananthapuram. It is a glass-floor bridge built over the calm waters of Akkulam Lake, offering a controlled thrill that combines scenic views with subtle visual effects. Unlike hilltop glass bridges, the appeal of Akkulam lies in its urban lakeside setting, along with the added advantage of being open during evening hours.
The bridge is about 50 metres long and 2 metres wide. Three layers of laminated glass with a safety film have been used for the construction, making it strong enough to bear the controlled foot traffic. Around 20 visitors are the maximum number allowed at a time to ensure safety and a proper visitor flow. What distinguishes Akkulam is the use of special effects such as artificial fog, simulated rain visuals, LED lighting, and illusion-based effects that give redepth and motion under the glass.
