Kovalam, which played a key role in shaping Kerala’s early beach tourism, is now one of the state’s active scuba diving locations. The town is known for its sheltered coves, clear waters, and natural rocky formations, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced divers.
The gradual slope of the sea floor makes it especially suitable for beginners. At the same time, deeper areas and underwater rock formations add to the appeal for more experienced divers. When water clarity is good, visibility improves, revealing coral patches, reef fish in varied colours, including parrotfish, sea urchins, and occasionally, an octopus.
What makes scuba diving in Kovalam stand out is the overall experience of the underwater environment. Each dive offers a different view, combining a sense of exploration with a close connection to nature.
Dives are conducted by certified operators, including those affiliated with internationally recognised organisations such as PADI, with trained instructors guiding each experience.
