Kudamaloor has been the nurturing ground for many artistes and writers. They include renowned Kathakali artiste, Kudamaloor Karunakaran Nair, and other maestros of Kerala art forms like Sopanasangeetham, Kalamezhuthu, Mudiyattom and the martial art form of Kalaripayattu. The art and research centres here like the Devivilasam Kathakali Yogam and the Sopanam Kalavedi are active participants in the cultural scene of the State. Kudamaloor is also the birthplace of St Alphonsa, the first Indian woman to be canonized as a saint. Her ancestral house, Muttathupadathu, in Kudamaloor, is now a pilgrimage spot.
