|The domestic architecture of the modern houses aims to create amenities for a single family. Usually, there is a drawing room, a dining room, bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchen. The house may be one or two storied, with a concrete roof. Some houses that are roofed with tiles may have an extra wooden ceiling.
Coir mats and carpets are usually spread on the floor of the houses at Kumarakom. The walls may be decorated with handicrafts and other wall hangings. The villagers sleep on grass mats or wooden cots.
