Edakkal Caves

Edakkal Caves

The Neolithic era, or the New Stone Age, is a period of time, long before recorded history began. But the era is kept recorded in the Edakkal Caves in Wayanad District of Kerala. The caves are in the Ambukuthi Hills, located 12 km from Sulthan Bathery, which are part of the larger mountain range of the Western Ghats.

Visitors can see two natural rock formations bearing carvings of human and animal forms inside the caves. Besides human and animal figures, the rock engravings include Swastik symbols and many other antique symbols that are remnants of bygone times. The place is a tourist attraction as well as a place of enormous interest for archaeologists.

Visiting time: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM & Monday Holiday
