Kalpetta

Kalpetta is the headquarters of Wayanad district, and is a popular hill station situated on the Kozhikode-Mysore National highway. This quaint town is located 72 kms from Kozhikode, and is dotted with coffee and tea plantations. It is a major trade and commerce hub in the district. The spices, coffee, and tea produced in the mountains of Wayanad have admiring customers in various other regions of Kerala

Kalpetta is also a tourist centre owing to its proximity to the popular spots in the district. The tourist attractions near Kalpetta includes the picturesque Chembra peak, Meenmutty waterfalls, Karapuzha dam, Soochipara falls, Pakshipathalam bird sanctuary, Kuruvadweep and many more organic wonders.

The town of Kalpetta boasts of strong Jain roots, with over 500 families residing in the area. It is believed that the Jains migrated from Karnataka, settled here and named the town ‘Kalpetta’. There are many Jain temples and institutions here, adding a diverse and unique flavour to this bustling town.
