Kanhirode Weaving Co-operative Society

The Kanhirode Weaving Co-operative Society, situated about 13 kms east of Kannur, is a good place to visit if you wish for a ringside view of the processes involved in making various Khadi apparels. The employees can be seen working incessantly at giant looms to bring out high quality bed linen, upholstery, curtain materials, shirts, saris and furnishing fabrics. These have a good market both within and outside the country.

The society, which came into being in 1952, aims at the preservation of traditional skills and the upliftment of the traditional community of weavers. In the year 1993-94, the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, awarded a gold medal to the institution for being the best performing unit.

There is also a small outlet nearby where the various products are put up for sale.
