Thalangara

Thalangara

Thalangara (Thalankara) is the district headquarters of Kasaragod district. This quiet suburb achieved global recognition due to the handmade traditional caps made here. These flat round caps carry intricate designs woven out of gold threads on their sideband. These were once exported to Arab and African countries as well as to Muslim traders in Lakshadweep. The Thalangara cap is even mentioned in the works of Ibn Battuta, the legendary explorer who visited India during the 14th century.
