Heritage Buildings

Palakkad district stands as a testimony to the grandeur of the past with its Tharavadus (ancestral homes) and many old edifices that lie scattered in the landscape. Apart from the Olappamanna Mana, there are many old buildings which were homes of famous joint families. Devi Vilasom Palace, that belongs to the Kollengode royal family and is situated in front of Govt. Victoria College, is one of them. The palace sprawls over vast, verdant grounds and adds a quaint aura of elegance to the landscape.

The architectural grace of manas like Deshamangalam, Poomully and other ancestral homes is worth mentioning. Spread over a huge area, with many rooms, windows and halls linked by open courtyards, each is a perfect example of the Kerala style of architecture. The extensive use of wood and the intricate craftwork on the doors of these old structures cannot go unnoticed.
